When A Dog Sees An Adoptable Cat He Or She Falls Head Over Heels In Love

Kelsey Gilland and her husband were looking for a cone for one of their dogs at PetSmart when they decided to check if they have any adoptable cats that day. Because of COVID-19, the couple hadn’t gone to PetSmart in a while, but they were happy to discover two gorgeous kitties hanging together that day. They merely intended to look, but Paisleigh, their dog, had other ideas.

Paisleigh fell in love with one of the cats, Oliver, the moment she saw him. Through the glass, the immediate best friends chatted and seemed to have a particular connection straight away.

“When I observed how they interacted, my husband remarked to me, ‘Babe, it’s an orange cat, isn’t that what you’ve been looking for?’ ‘YES!’ shouted everything in me. ‘Please, let’s get him back to his home!’

However, Gilland was concerned about Oliver’s compatibility with the family’s two other cats, so the three departed PetSmart without Oliver, much to Paisleigh’s chagrin.

Gilland couldn’t stop thinking about Oliver that night. Paisleigh came to believe that he and Paisleigh had a special connection, and that he was intended to be a part of their family.

“All night long, I was thinking about that adorable kitten, and when I awoke… “I wanted to check whether he was still there at PetSmart,” Gilland explained. “It was a no-brainer for my spouse. We suited up and headed to PetSmart, carrying our own kennel with us since we knew we’d be taking him home if he was still there.”

Gilland was concerned about Oliver’s compatibility with the family’s two other cats, so the three left PetSmart without him, much to Paisleigh’s disappointment.

Gilland couldn’t get Oliver out of his head that night. Paisleigh came to believe that he and Paisleigh had been destined to be a member of their family because of the way they had bonded.

“All night long, I kept thinking about that adorable kitten, and when I awoke… “I wanted to see whether he was still at PetSmart,” Gilland explained. “It was welcomed by my hubby. We suited up and proceeded to PetSmart, where we purchased our own box since we knew we’d be taking him home if he was still there.”

Fortunately, Oliver was still available for adoption. The couple was unable to meet and welcome Oliver prior to adoption because to COVID-19, but they concluded it didn’t matter. They followed Paisleigh’s instincts and returned him to his home.

They let Oliver out of his box as soon as they arrived home so he could meet Paisleigh in person — and the two were just as in love as they’d been at PetSmart the day before.

“Oliver sprang out of his cage and walked straight over to Paisleigh, as if he’d known her his whole life,” Gilland added. “At first, she just wanted to lick him all over, but he didn’t seem to mind.” He was purring like a cat. They snuggled in bed with me for the next four hours before we brought the other animals in to greet.”

Any concerns the couple had regarding Oliver’s ability to blend in with the rest of the family vanished almost instantly. Paisleigh was thrilled that her parents had listened to her and brought Oliver home, and their other pets instantly welcomed him as a part of the pack. She had a feeling she and Oliver were destined to be together.

“He’s extremely loving and cuddling, and he has so many of Paisleigh’s features,” Gilland said. “It’s like a made-in-heaven match.”

Paisleigh adores her brother Oliver, and her parents are pleased that they took her to PetSmart that day so she could pick their newest family member by mistake.
