Adopted By Hero Vet Who Saved Him After He Was Horribly Burnt In A Wildfire

The veterinary nurse who helped him live and make a miraculous recovery has adopted a cute little kitty who suffered horrible burns in a blaze. When police officers discovered the seven-week-old animal lying in the road beside a bonfire, it was given a limited chance of life.

On September 15, he was brought to Pride Veterinary Centre in Derby for a surgery to preserve his eye and treat his wounds. The kitten, however, amazingly survived, and veterinary nurse Jenni Gretton was so impressed with him that she began an online fundraising drive to help pay for his treatment.

Jenni, 32, took the cat, which he called the ‘Fire Cat’, because no one wanted to adapt it.

“It smells like burnt bread because it has large-scale burns,” said Jenni, of Mickelover, Derbyshire. His ears and mustache were also burned and his hair was completely burned.

“His entire face was burned, and his eyes were completely blackened.” His ears were sticking to the top of his head, and he was in excruciating pain.

“His appearance deteriorated a few days later when the skin on his face began to peel away – the skin on his face peeled away after a few days.”

“He was little and frail, and he refused to do anything. We gave him fluids since we didn’t know whether he could eat or drink, but we didn’t think he’d make it. It was tough to decide whether or not to continue with treatment.” We decided to give it a go. At that moment, we were unclear what to do because we had never seen a kitten that had been burned that badly before. We knew he was in a lot of discomfort and that he was at risk of having an infection or not being able to breathe properly.”

But, because we wanted to give it a chance, we started painkillers.

“His eyes were burned. I washed his face and washed his eyes to see how severe his injuries were. His lips were completely burned, down to his teeth. He seemed to be going well for a few days. His behavior has improved dramatically over time.
“Since no one had come out to look for him, I went out voluntarily to take him home.”

“We still don’t know who owned him, what happened to him, or whether or not it was malicious.”

“Perhaps they didn’t summon him because they didn’t think he’d make it through his injuries. After seven days, I brought him home, and his hair began to come off.I was washing him and applying vaseline to his wounds all day.His skin began to peel away from his face, nose, and nostrils said for DayliStar.

Jenni, her husband Phil Gretton, 42, and their two-year-old son Jude now live with the cat.

“When my kid saw him, he instantly dubbed him Fire Cat,” she explained. We tried calling him something different, but it stayed.
